Easter at a megachurch in Corpus Christi, Texas, will look like the popular TV game show “The Price Is Right.”

Sixteen cars, 15 flat-screen televisions furniture sets and other prizes are lined up at Bay Area Fellowship Church and ready to be claimed by anyone who attends the church’s Easter services on Sunday.

Though the church of some 7,000 weekly attendees has regularly flexed its creative muscles to draw the unchurched, the upcoming “Ultimate Giveaway” is like no other outreach it has ever attempted. (Read full story on ChristianPost)

A Christian legal group filed an appeal this week to fight a ban against a church meeting in homes.

With only seven members, Oasis of Truth Church was ordered to stop holding all activities, including Bible studies, leadership meetings and fellowship activities, in Pastor Joe Sutherland’s home in Gilbert, Ariz.

Alliance Defense Fund attorneys contend in the appeal that was filed Wednesday that banning religious meetings of any size or frequency in a home is unprecedented and unconstitutional. (Read full report on ChristianPost.com site)

Hologram Preachers In Churches?

March 6, 2010

Holographic preachers are stirring another technology-gone-too-far debate among Christians. (Read full story here).

While the dust over beaming preachers on a video screen on multi-site campuses has somewhat settled, the new 3D tool is raising more questions and concerns among some believers.

“Since so many of us in the west are convinced that entertaining pew fodder is critical to advancing ‘the gospel’ and that only a very few have the necessary gifts to preachertain – this will become the ‘perfect’ solution,” Bill Kinnon, author of A Networked Conspiracy, Social Networks, The Church & the Power of Collective Intelligence, wrote in a recent blog post.

QUOTE: “Pastor Benny Hinn and his immediate family were shocked and saddened to learn of this news without any previous notice. The couple has been married for more than 30 years. Although Pastor Hinn has faithfully endeavored to bring healing to their relationship, those efforts failed and were met with the petition for divorce that was filed without notice.” —Don Price, senior adviser to Benny Hinn Ministries, after Hinn’s wife, Suzanne, filed for divorce on Feb. 1. The divorce papers cited “irreconcilable differences” with the famous healing evangelist. Married in 1979, the Hinns have three daughters and one son. [charismamag.com, 2/19/10]

Seven Indicators of Church Health

By Dan Reiland

docLists can be good and bad. I don’t use a list when I go to the grocery store and I should. I come home with stuff that apparently isn’t useful unless someone calls out “Who’s got the party snacks!?” Then I’m your man! When I get home my wife gives me that loving, but “Oh well, he can’t help it, he just doesn’t know any better” look. However, I also buy her flowers nearly every time I’m there. I would never put flowers on a list. When I see them, I think of her, and so I get them. This seems to make up for a lot!

The church can have the same kind of good news bad news when it comes to lists. There is a kind of science involved in the church and we need lists. We need lists of people, budgets, calendar items, prioritized values, and lists of things to do. That’s just for starters. Read on …

david-and-goliath - By Pastor Terry Virgo

Goliath looked down on the Israelites with contempt. ‘We Philistines,’ he mused, ‘have already conquered the Moabites, and this little nation is just the next obstacle in our path.’ He was totally unaware that there was another factor to be taken into account: he was confronting not just another little nation but God’s covenant people.

The perspective
David understood. He bore the covenant mark of circumcision in his body. He had an advantage over everyone else, regardless of their prowess or prestige. He was one of the people of God. Read more…

Boys will be Boys!

boysSometimes I wonder if men and women really suit each other. Perhaps they should live next door and just visit now and then. –Katherine Hepburn Do you ever find yourself burning with questions that have no answers? Such as:

  • how can a boy who effortlessly opens restricted e-mail files have trouble closing the toilet lid?
  • why do men and boys always “flick” the remote control at the exact moment we women become interested in a program?
  • how can men live with dirty socks strewn all over the house, but get upset if there’s one empty ice tray in the freezer? Read more…

remote1I am not as much worried about global warming as I am worried about the decreasing levels of human intelligence.  Some of the most amazing inventions mankind has ever seen have taken place during the last 100 years!  But now it looks as if the inventing brains are taking a siesta and the only things that are still being developed are faster, smaller and cheaper microchips. Hardly anything else.  Can’t they think of anything other than computers? And DVD’s? And plasma TV’s? ….. Read more…

Intimacy With God

God displayed his power, tearing mountains apart, shattering rocks and causing an earthquake. Then he drew close to Elijah with a gentle whisper. It wasn’t the magnificent display of power that attracted Elijah to the mouth of the cave, but the soft voice that spoke to him of God’s tenderness and love. Accountability to God must be accompanied by intimacy with him, because we will receive healing and restoration only when the two are brought together. We must hear the voice that asks, ‘What are you doing here?’ but also have our ears tuned to the gentle whisper that says, ‘You are precious to me. I know what’s happening’ – the voice that woos us tenderly back into God’s purposes.

Opening & Closing Prayers!

When I was a young believer one thing that had really caught my attention was the ‘opening’ and ‘closing’ prayers in the church.  As a disciple I had learnt about ‘binding’ and ‘loosing’ prayers, but these were not as popular it seemed,  as were the ‘opening’ and ‘closing’ prayers! Read more…

Peep

spring1

Oh, how I love spring.

How can you not? I don’t care where you live, spring looks like the earth yawning and stretching its arms. It smells like hope, and new beginnings, and the promise of soon-to-be-cut grass. It tastes like a long-awaited picnic. It feels like bright yellow fluff. It sounds like the peep of two-legged babies.

That’s what’s filling my ears right now … the sound of chicks trying out their teeny vocal chords. Yesterday was “chick day” at the local co-op. Dave and I trotted down there and picked up a half-dozen Golden Sex Link chicks. Supposedly, they’ve been bred to only produce females, but I don’t quite follow the logic (or feasibility) of that. All I know is that they’re adorable … and very noisy. Read more…

PRAYER-ers!!

prayersm1I have come across two kinds of believers.

The first one – the ‘Please keep me in your prayers’ group and the second ‘I’ll keep you in my prayers’.

I do wonder when I come across these ‘prayerers’ how to respond to either of these.  I have even wondered if these people are taught to say these things before they are allowed to join a church.

Let The River Flow …

riverOne of our prayer partner had a Vision,  he did not understand the Vision, he called me and we prayed over the phone for about 25 minutes and the Holy Spirit gave me the interpretation of the Vision.

He saw a river bed which had dried up and people had put cots and sleeping on the river bed, he also had another Vision and saw another river flowing out of which God was raising up a new generation of people who will speak the unadulterated Pure Word of God, which will give Life to people.

The river bed is the church which  has to have Living water flowing to the lives of the people, the word has dried up so people have comfortably entered into spiritual dryness & deadness.

We have to Pray that the Gospel which is the Power of God will have a free course to flow everywhere and bring Life & healing to the People.

The good news is that God is raising up a new generation of people who will Speak the Word of Life. Amen.

Remember in Acts 5.20,the angel released Peter from prison and said ” Go and stand & speak in the temple to the people the Words of Life”.

Already In Heaven

By David Baroni
davidbaronipic1Where do believers in Christ go when they die? Why, heaven of course. Of all the beliefs that could (and do) divide people, this is not one of them.
This writing borrows a lot from Pastor Bill Johnson at Bethel Church in Redding CA. There is a biblical passage, John 3:13 in which Jesus states: “No one has ascended to heaven but He who descended: The Son of Man who is in heaven.” (emphasis mine)
Some translations leave off the last four words. That is unfortunate, for in those four words: “…who is in heaven,” there is a wonderful, empowering truth for those who have ears to hear. Read more…
